You do not have to navigate this alone.
I want to recognize the courage it has taken you to begin searching for counseling. Something unsettling is occurring — and that matters. Whatever the struggle, I would consider it a privilege to journey together with you.

The work of therapy is not to fix what is broken;
It is to understand what was never given the space to be known.
Areas of Focus
What brings people to therapy
Anxiety
Depression
Feelings of emptiness, disconnection, or a loss of meaning. Therapy offers a space to be honest about what’s heavy and to begin moving again.
Identity
Questions of who you are, where you belong, and how to live authentically — whether shaped by culture, sexuality, faith, or simply a sense of not fitting.
Family of Origin
The patterns and wounds carried from childhood. Understanding where they came from is often the first step toward not being ruled by them.
Life Transitions
Career changes, relationship shifts, loss, becoming a parent, growing older — transitions can unsettle us even when we chose them.
Relational Struggles
Difficulty trusting, repeating painful patterns, feeling unseen. Together we examine how early experiences shape the way you connect today.
"The work we do together is a tapestry of past, present, and future."
- Fred DuMez-Matheson, MA, LMHC
My Approach
Relational Psychotherapy
My work is grounded in relational psychotherapy — a psychodynamic approach that understands who we are and how we struggle through the lens of relationship. The patterns that shape our lives grew from our earliest attempts to stay connected with caregivers. What once helped us survive can become the very thing that holds us back.
The therapeutic relationship itself becomes the space where these patterns become visible, can be felt, reflected on, and gradually transformed. This is not a process I do to you — it is a genuine collaboration. You are the expert on your own story.
While my primary orientation is relational and psychodynamic, I draw from a range of approaches when useful. The goal is always to help you access your own wisdom, resilience, and capacity to move toward a fuller, richer life.

Therapy for Adults across Washington
All sessions are conducted via secure video — accessible from wherever you are in the state.
I work with adults of every gender and orientation–men, women, and nonbinary individuals–navigating the full complexity of adult life. Whether you are in your twenties and figuring out who you are; in midlife and reckoning with what has been and what still might be; or moving through later decades with their particular weight and gift — there is space here for you.
Telehealth allows us to do meaningful, depth-oriented work without the barrier of geography or commute. Sessions are conducted via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform, and many clients find the comfort of their own space supports the kind of openness that therapy asks of us.
Some part of every person’s heart can feel like the vagabond — wandering, searching, not quite at home. Whatever has brought you here, you deserve a space that honors your story and your courage in showing up to it.
Background
My path to this work
My journey to counseling was not a straight one — and I believe that has made me a better therapist. After eight years in construction and twelve years as an educator, I attended The Seattle School of Theology and Psychology, where I earned my Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology in 2012.
I completed my internship at Atlantic Street Center in Seattle’s Rainier Valley, a social service agency specializing in working with families of color. After graduation I remained there for two years, working with children, adolescents, and families in school settings — addressing trauma, depression, and anxiety. Simultaneously I had the privilege of facilitating individual and group interpersonal development for graduate students in The Seattle School’s Counseling Practicum program.
Those varied experiences — in trades, in classrooms, in community agencies, in training clinicians — developed in me a broad and genuine respect for the range of ways human beings struggle and grow.
